Biography

Sara is a ceramist, currently living and working in London. In 2013, she graduated with a BA (Hons) in Ceramics from Cardiff Metropolitan University.

During the early noughties, Sara served as a studio assistant for two renowned British ceramicists, Kate Malone and Katharine Morling, where she refined her unique handcrafted style, creating and layering delicate wafer-thin forms with gradual gradients of colour.

Sara’s initial attraction to porcelain stems from its distinctive translucent properties and its ability to both absorb and reflect light. Beyond the material itself, her inspiration is drawn from the seeming simplicity of Japanese aesthetics and the natural world, including the luminosity and palette of the sky. In her approach to working with porcelain, Sara expresses:

“I paint intuitively with porcelain clay in its liquid form, slip, reimagining this traditional material into wafer-thin stratas of beauty, delicacy, and strength… Light also creates intimacy in my pieces – torn uneven edges of porcelain catch the light and are illuminated while simultaneously casting shadow to the layer behind.”

In 2021, Sara received an honourable mention at the International KOGEI Crafts Awards in Japan, and a year later, she was awarded the 3D Art Prize at the Wales Contemporary Open for her artwork ‘Monochrome Maquette.’ In 2022, she received the Rosalind Stacey Ceramics Award from Cockpit Arts, a centre for excellence in crafts based in London.

Recognised for her craftsmanship, Sara is a member of the Craft Potters Association and Contemporary Applied Arts. In 2022, she was invited to join Homo Faber, a collection of the best artisans and makers from across Europe.
