Biography

Mo (b.1965) originates from the Netherlands and has been working there as a full-time ceramist since 2012. She currently lives just outside Amsterdam.

Recognising porcelain as a material traditionally associated with tea sets, Mo has ingeniously subverted its conventional use to craft unique sculptures and wall pieces adorned with gold leaf. These are distinguished by their faceted surfaces and simplicity.

Her pure white porcelain doll-like statues are based on a child’s toy yet are transformed into sculpture-like statues through the addition of subtle details.  The gold leaf on their pure white surface highlight parts of the sculpture that symbolise human emotions or character.

Mo’s wall pieces feature gold and white spherical geometric forms with multiple faces, arranged in wave-like structures reminiscent of reflections of light. Occasionally, these installations fill entire walls, exemplified by ‘Kubus Wave Length with Gold’, a commissioned piece arranged with Cube Gallery for the St. Regis Macao.

In addition to participating in New York and Miami art fairs, Mo’s artwork has been extensively exhibited across Europe.
