Dan Ablitt
Dan is a British artist, living and working in Bristol where has established his own paint studio creating colourful, dreamlike landscapes and scenes, inspired by locations from his memory of past journeys and observations. From his study of fine art painting at Heriot Watt University and the University of Gloucestershire, Dan has continued his pursuit of exploring his world through creativity and expression.
With work that explores the relationship between people, memory, and landscape, Dan often paints a figure set against vast, open spaces — this figurative element provides the viewer with a doorway into a possible narrative. Through layered colour, light, and texture, his paintings invite the viewer to pause and connect with a sense of stillness and timelessness within the scene.
Working with his preferred medium of oil on wood panel, this artist’s use of light brush work brings out tiny details; such as glowing lights or blossoming flowers in contrast to larger areas of washed-out inky mark-making, staining the surface, all adding to the dream-like quality of his work. Like a dream, the landscapes in them seem to recede into a mist or glow, with no particular beginning or endpoint, they are full of detail but never over-worked.
