Sung Rim Park
The space created by knotting threads and intertwining dots, lines, and irregular shapes becomes my own world; my universe.
Sung Rim Park is a South Korean artist based in Seoul. Rim's artworks appreciate nature and implement the sensibility of the fabric as the physical properties of the fibre. She explores the three-dimensional and installation bases on the sensory characteristics of the fibre, the reaction of the physical properties, the possibility of manipulation and deformation, and its unique light mass and scalability.
The work is determined by repeated knots. The knot is a one-dimensional bonding technology that enables the extension and expansion of fibres and is an indispensable expression technique for three-dimensional construction. The tightly tied knot becomes a point in itself, and the threads connected to the knot appear in the form of a line, and their build-up forms a spatial matrix. The utilisation and expression techniques of these materials initiate abstract, emotional, and subjective thinking rather than logic, and lead to fibre-specific sensory dialogue with the inside.
