Daniel Mirchev
My approach is to transcend the traditional boundaries of wood carving, and explore the limitless potential of wood as a medium for contemporary art.
Daniel is a Bulgarian sculptor currently living and working in Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated in Wood Carving from the Applied Arts College 'Dimitar Dobrovich' in the town of Sliven.
His elegant wall pieces, marked by their stunning aesthetic, originate from modest pencil drawings on paper. Daniel often refines his ideas through smaller artworks before undertaking ambitious wall pieces. While his smaller framed pieces are hand-carved from solid birch, he crafts larger pieces from birch plywood that he personally manufactures.
Once the design and size are determined, Daniel directly draws onto the wood or wood laminate, employing traditional chisels and sanders for the removal of excess wood. His artworks are conceived as single pieces like 'Cashmere' or in multiple sections forming a cohesive composition, as seen in 'Hyper Zoom Waves.'
Daniel has had six solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions, including "Architec-tonic" in Brussels and the Summer Group Show at XIN Art Gallery in Ars-en-Ré, France. Beyond his art, he has curated and managed projects in graphic design and stage design for movies, TV, and commercials in Bulgaria.
Collectors from across Europe, Canada, and the United States actively seek Daniel's sculptures. With Cube Gallery, he has exhibited at Art Miami and the esteemed Collect Art Fair at Somerset House on the River Thames.
