Introducing Ane Christensen

We’ve been following Ane Christensen’s works for some time and are thrilled to receive two of her latest series: Fading Vessels. This series is unique in its free-standing nature, and is an evolution of her previous works from the Ghost or Cube series, which typically include a solid base. Instead, the Fading Vessel series sees brass rods and wires expanding outwards from a central point in a cylindrical shape, seemingly unsupported.

Ane’s sculptures are constructed in abstract, bowl-like shapes, utilising optical illusion and negative space to evoke the presence and absence of light, a running theme throughout her work. Inspired by the fleeting mid-summer evening light found in Scandinavia where she grew up, these works hold memories of belonging for her, as well as the celebration of light.

Both the brass alloy and the technique of soldering ‘free form’ can be traced back to the Middle East 3000 BC; the vessels represent a meeting of a contemporary idea and technology with ancient process and material.
