Kate Evans
Currently living in Bristol, UK, Kate Evans earned a BA (Hons) in Illustration from Falmouth College of Arts in 2006.
In her 'Wilderness Series,' Kate paints isolated farms in remote regions of America, Scandinavia and Europe. Setting her subjects against expansive areas of negative space, she captures the desolation and sheer wilderness of their surroundings. Using her preferred medium of watercolour paint, watercolour pastel, and oil on paper, and often working on-site, Kate imparts a heightened sense of texture to their stone, brick, and corrugated iron surfaces, bringing each architectural form to life.
In her paintings of birch trees, Kate takes her exploration of colour and its application to the next level. Again using the backdrop of negative space, each trunk is isolated within its field. The natural patterning of tree bark gives her the freedom to combine different mediums, creating vibrant patterns with variations in colour, intensity, opacity, transparency, and intensity.
Through keen observation, excellent draughtsmanship, and skilled use of her medium, Kate produces images that not only reflect but also enhance her subject matter.
Cube Gallery has exhibited Kate's artwork in Brussels, Stockholm, London, and New York. Additionally, her work has been shown in the prestigious Mall Galleries in London.
