Bethan Harris
Bethan Harris is an artist based in Bedfordshire, where she specialises in highly detailed pastel drawings of the natural environment. Bethan has graduated with a Fine Art degree at Newcastle University in 2022, and has since exhibited with the Royal Academy of Arts, Mall Galleries, and the Oxo Tower in London.
Through blending observation with abstraction, Bethan captures the ephemeral essence of nature through its movements, textures, and the shifting play of light. Bethan’s practice focuses on drawing, with a distinctive emphasis on using colour as a tool for creating imaginative landscapes.
By employing a repetitive mark-making style that repeats a singular motion, an act that becomes meditative in nature, Bethan expresses the vivid movement and life of her subjects - through colourful, swirling trees and shifting skies. Drawing inspiration from personal memories and local history, Bethan uses her process not only to explore external landscapes but also to reflect on internal states of being.
Bethan was awarded with the Young Person's Award for the Derwent Art Prize in London in 2024. She has also participated in artist residencies across the UK, as she completes public commissions for Newcastle City Council, Durham University and Newcastle University.
